Eliminating eye wrinkles
:  I've tried to use an under eye moisturizer to eliminate wrinkles, but it makes my eye makeup smear, so I stopped.  Now I'm beginning to see wrinkles appear.  What can I do?
ANSWER:  Just as you would not use a hairbrush to brush your teeth, you must use appropriate products best able to nourish and renew the fragile area around the eyes. Your daytime eye cream may be too oily causing the break down of your carefully applied makeup. The solution may be to apply a heavier eye cream at night before bed, which will allow the moisturizer to stay on longer, and a lighter moisturizer for daytime use under makeup. The skin around the eye is much thinner than the skin on the rest of the face and body, has fewer oil glands and no fatty layer underneath, and must be cared for appropriately. For best results apply these specific eye creams and lotions to bare skin, and massage lightly with your finger, which causes the least damaging pressure on the thin eye skin. Always rotate your finger with a round gentle motion in, towards the nose and around the eye, slightly massaging the eye muscles from the insertion of the muscle to its origin. For daytime, it is essential to cover bare skin with products that contain a protecting moisturizer and sunscreen. Shop for non-oily "daytime use" products. (Used properly these should eliminate the problem of makeup smearing.) Also, be sure to wear sunglasses when outside as this protects the eyes and helps to avoid the "squinting" wrinkles that can form in the delicate eye skin.Another trick that you can use is to set your makeup, especially around your eyes, with powder. The loose powder seems to work best for this because it does not contain the waxy binders that hold together cake powder. The powder will even out any oily areas that could lead to smearing and allow your makeup to stay fresh looking longer.New technology is being applied to skin care products every day targeting an aging population, so there are many good products available in every price range. Vitamin C, Ester, CoQ10, Alpha Lipoic Acid and green tea make up just some of the wide anti-aging arsenal. You may need to try products for a few months before you really know if they are working. It took years to get those wrinkles; you can't expect them to fade overnight! For more information on proper skin care techniques ask your favorite esthetician.
