Dough...Don’t eat it
Question:  Why shouldn't I taste a sample of cookie dough before baking it? I remember when we were kids, grandma would always let us eat raw cookie dough. I can't ever remember any of us getting sick. Today we're told not to eat it. Why?
Answer:  The majority of cookie dough contains eggs, which according to the FDA should be heated to a temperature of no less than 155° before consumption.  Raw eggs can contain the bacteria Salmonella Enteritidis which can cause severe and sometimes fatal illness.  Small children, elderly persons and individuals whose immune systems may be weak are at the highest risk.  It is always safer to wait until the cookies are baked.  If you enjoy the taste of the raw cookie dough, try tasting before adding eggs if your recipe allows.
