Remembering...
: Do you remember any of the past television and radio personalities?
ANSWER: I had a lady ask me the other day about some of the past television and radio personalities.  That is always interesting to think back about and remember.  Quite a few of the radio personalities of the past became television personalities as the TV media developed.  For example KAKE was the personality oriented station that used most of the on air announcers as another featured personality.  For example there was John Froome who was first heard here in Wichita on KANS……Then later on KAKE TV.  He was the creator of most of the special programs and he of course was an announcer..…then Henry Harvey started on KFBI and later was on KAKE as an announcer and also co- characters…..Freddy Fudd, and the popular Santa Claus…..on the show with KAKE Man muppet.  Tom Leahy of course was on KAKE radio with his popular Irwin's Dance Party show and one of their great announcers…..he then moved to TV where he was "The Host" and introduced the horror shows with his co host Rodney.  There was Bill Mclean who was on KAKE radio and actually did a weekly remote from the record shop in the 100 block of south Broadway that was live and in the front window of the store.  He later became the weather man that said it's a bee-utiful day in KAKELAND… He announced on channel 10 and was also Captain Bill with his own cartoon show. Clarence Brown was Cousin Clarence and performed with the KRH Ark Valley Boys and was seen on Channel 10 as "Popeye", and Ollie Henry…..a very tall man who announced on KAKE radio…..Deputy Dusty was on KAKE radio then intro'd the cowboy shows and had Dusty’s Jamboree and then was farm director at KFDI.  A lot of very pleasant history…..and there is so much more that we will cover at a later time.  By the way, yours truly was the third on camera announcer from KTVH Wichita Studio…..where I did 15 on camera commercials a week.  Lots of fun thinking back.  Keep warm.
