Do you remember?
: Faye, what is one of your favorite months of the year?
ANSWER: May in Wichita is a beautiful month…we have all four seasons here and even though we have enjoyed a very mild winter, we can still enjoy spring. Have you ever imagined living in a climate where you only have one season — either always hot or cold? Just think of what Christmas would be like with an 80 degree day. Wouldn’t it take away the crispness of the season that you have with the winter snow and cold weather? Then possibly you could live in a climate where the winter comes and stays a long time. Think of cloudy days all the time. We are very fortunate to see all of the blossoms on the pear trees, redbud trees, mimosa’s and the many others. I still remember the city of Wichita using the schools to decorate the city. You say how could that happen? They sold seeds for redbud trees at a dime each. That is why we have so many in our town. Then did you ever think of how we live without pollution like other large cities? Cecil Carrier who is a friend of mine — we worked together for years at Channel 12 — he told me one time that we are so fortunate to have the wind blowing across the prairie…it is the best air purifier you could have. We can still see the stars, the moon and clear blue skies. True… many times we have severe storms, but all in all, Wichita is a very beautiful place to call home. The clean air also keeps our buildings clean. The flat countryside and prairies allow the wind to move freely. Granted, we have had many fires this year but that is an unusual tragedy for this area to endure. As we are enjoying the beauty of Spring, we might count some of the blessings of living here and enjoy all the colors of the season. Have a great Spring.
