What is the fair bringing this year?
What do I have to look forward to at the Kansas State Fair this September?
The tagline for this year’s state fair is, “It’s a Wild Ride, Baby” and there are many events and prizes to be given away for the upcoming event. The fair offers something for everyone including a world-class Midway, blue ribbon animals, performances at the Grandstand, agricultural and educational displays, carnival rides, culinary sampling, enormous vegetables, odd artifacts, homemade crafts and the infamous butter sculpture.
The fair has many partnership sponsors this year that will be contributing wild prizes to continue with the theme of this year’s fair. A few lucky fairgoers will have the chance to pay their way to the fair by winning ethanol fuel. Attendees will have the opportunity to register to win fuel certificates throughout various locations on the fairgrounds.
One lucky fairgoer will win a BMX bike courtesy of the fair and the Giant Bicycles Stunt Team that will be performing at the Kansas State Fair. Check them out as the team performs their amazing choreographed stunts in the air and on the ground, and the grand finale that includes 360-degree turns and back flips.
The Kansas Lottery also teamed up with the Kansas State Fair and will be giving away a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The vehicle will be given away through the “Hot Lotto Cool Ride” promotion, and the drawing will be held September 17. Anyone may enter to win by purchasing $2.00 or more on a single “Hot Lotto” ticket now through the date of the drawing, and will automatically receive an entry for the drawing. The grand prize includes the Sport Trac, mandatory state and federal income taxes, registration fees, license tag fees and cash.
There will also be a wild wedding sponsored by KHUT Country 102.9, KHMY 93.1 and the Kansas State Fair. Fairgoer couples have the opportunity to enter for a chance to get married on the midway. Couples that wish to enter the contest must submit a 150-word statement explaining why they feel they should be married and a recent photo of themselves. The “Marriage on the Midway” winning couple will receive a ceremony, flowers, food for 100 guests and a free gown for the bride-to-be.
Along with all of these wild prizes are the traditional freebies including balloons, pens and rulers that are available for each fairgoer. The Kansas State Fair is the largest event in the state and is expected to attract more than 325,000. It is scheduled for September 8-17 in Hutchinson, Kansas at the newly renovated fairgrounds.
