Staying on track with weight loss
QUESTION: I feel like a failure.  I’ve started and stopped losing my weight so many times I can’t even count them.  How do I stay on track?

ANSWER: First you need to know you’re not a failure.  Failure is an event not a person. An unsuccessful attempt does not indicate a permanent result.  On the other hand, attempting the same task the same way each time and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.  In other words, unsuccessful past attempts do not foretell the future, provided you know what you want to accomplish and you create a new plan for accomplishing your goal.  Willy Jolly said “A setback is a setup for a comeback.”  Let’s look at how we can set up for the comeback.
First, it’s vitally important that you know what your goal is and why you want to achieve that goal.   You must be able to see in your mind with crystal clarity where you want to be.  Define it, write it down, and communicate it to others.  When you can tell others your vision, it becomes real.  Studies have shown that a person will overcome great obstacles to keep what he already has, but will exert small efforts to get what he doesn’t have.  Seeing your vision so clearly as if it was already reality, begins to draw you closer to the goal.  Zig Ziglar calls this “Telling yourself the truth in advance”.  Write it, see it, and speak it like the goal is already yours.  The vision is the energy that will accelerate your actions.
Second, decide for yourself “why” you want to accomplish this goal.  List for yourself the five reasons that will make the goal worth it for you.  Look at long lasting permanent reasons.  A certain number of pounds, a certain size, or getting ready for an event do not provide the long lasting reasons needed to get you to your goal and keep you there.  Why do you want to add years to your life and life to your years?  What will be better when you are at your goal?  The “why” is the focus that will keep you going when a setback gets in your way.
Finally, take action.  Begin to move in the proper direction.  If you have tried a path before and it led you somewhere other than your goal, determine what you need to change to adjust your course.  Decide what worked, what didn’t work, and what can you do next.   All of life, no matter what the goal may be, is a constant realigning and adjusting our actions to keep us moving toward the result we want.  Get around someone who has already achieved the same goal you want to achieve and learn from them, a friend, a coach, or a group can help. No successful person ever achieved success without these steps.
Expect that you will achieve your goal.  See your goal clearly and see yourself at your goal.  Know why you want the goal, and align your actions to achieve your goal. Be sure to call me if you need help with any step in the process.  When you take these steps you will succeed, you will comeback!
