Expectations of a personal emergency response service
What should one expect from a personal emergency response service?
Friendly, caring support allowing individuals to receive immediate assistance in a medical emergency or when help is needed. Established in 1982 by Dr. Cramer Reed, Wichita Lifeline, Inc. is the only non-profit, personal emergency response service in Wichita. This service has provided help to the elderly, disabled and individuals whose health is at risk to remain living at home with the security of knowing help is only a button push away. Subscribers are monitored 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Because help is available at the push of a button, family members have peace of mind in knowing their loved one will be able to receive help when they are not able to be there. Emergency response service builds strong vital networks between families, caregivers, community agencies and health care workers within Wichita and 48 surrounding communities. Subscribers wear a lightweight, waterproof button around their neck or on a wristband at all times. When help is needed, the button is pressed and a signal is sent to the Lifeline communicator which is connected to the land line phone in the subscriber’s home. The communicator is programmed to dial a toll free call to a 24-hour response center. A trained Response Associate establishes voice contact with the subscriber through a speaker in the communicator which is heard throughout the home. If the subscriber verbally responds and indicates assistance is needed, the subscriber’s responders are contacted by the Response Associate by phone. A subscriber’s responder usually consists of family members, friends, neighbors, caregivers, or a combination of these individuals. If necessary, emergency medical services will be dispatched to the home. The team at Wichita Lifeline, Inc. currently provides the Lifeline service to over 2,120 people and is committed to providing the highest level of customer service. The team enjoys meeting people and always extends an open invitation to visit the Lifeline office located at 149 S. Ridge Rd. or contact by phone at 265-1700. Fees for the service are $35.50 per month with a one-time installation fee of $60.00. Office hours are Mon.-Fri. 8am to 5 pm.
