Please, help make my goals reality
You have said in the past that we should have written goals. Well I did that but I didn’t get any where towards my goals. I put the notebook away and never looked at it again till this past January. What can I do to make my goals reality?
ANSWER: You are absolutely correct that written goals are essential. Writing down your goals gives you a measure of your accomplishments. There are two keys that you need to understand in regards to setting goals. Goals must be brought into your awareness daily and you must develop a plan to achieve them. In order for goals to be effective, you must have them firmly entrenched in your brain. They must be in your conscious mind every day. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this. One is to put your goals in a place where you can see them every day. Put them where you have to look at them ; mine are on my bathroom mirror. I look there every morning when I’m brushing my teeth, combing my hair, and putting on my makeup. I read them every morning and commit them to my memory. One of the best things you can do to guarantee your future success is to be sure that you envision it today. Make sure that you have a vision for what you want out of life. Don’t just read your goals but take a minute to see them clearly in your mind. Envisioning helps ensure your actions during the day are congruent with your goals. Second, after you put your goals into your brain, you must develop an action plan for achieving them. A goal without an action is a wish. What you do today prepares you for your future. What you do today produces what you will become tomorrow. If you want to weigh 30 pounds less in three months, work out and eat healthier today. If you want to save $1000 in two months, put $16.66 in the bank today. Donna Krech puts it this way “Everything you do today will make you what you will be tomorrow and in the future; you can be sure of that. So take the mindset that you are going to be proactive and purposefully create the life of your dreams by acting today.” Develop your plan to reach your goal and then check your self during the day by asking “Is what I’m doing right now getting me closer to my goals?” If your actions are not aiding your goals, simply choose different actions. You are in control of your future by the actions you choose today. By writing down your goals, keeping them where you can see them daily, and committing them to memory you are steps closer to reaching your goals. Develop a plan of action that matches your goals and daily take steps toward that goal. These things are the keys that will allow you to make your goals and dreams, reality.
