Steps to keep that New Year’s resolution!
I make New Years resolutions every year; however they always seem to fall by the wayside fairly quickly. How can I make resolutions I can stick to?
There are several steps you can take to ensure you actually meet your goals this year. You first must pick goals that are powerful, review them pick a few to work on, and create a plan. First you need to pick resolutions that mean something to you over the long haul. For example if a resolution is to lose weight, you need a reason why you want to lose weight. Just a number on a scale or a certain size, probably isn’t enough to keep you motivated. Staying healthy so you can enjoy your life, or being able to play with your kids and grandkids might be a powerful why that will keep you motivated. Second, you need to write your resolutions down on paper. Your achievement success rate automatically increases when your goals are written down. Your success rate climbs even higher when you review your resolution regularly. I suggested reviewing your goals weekly or better yet, daily. Keeping your goal in your minds eye enables you to focus expressly on them and in turn you begin to see opportunities to move you closer to your goal. Third, you need to pick one or two goals to work on at a time. It’s easy to look at life and find things that need improvement; however, the list can become overwhelming. Working on too many areas at one time prevents you from mastering the skills needed to achieve the goal. Pick one or two goals to focus on and begin acquiring the skills necessary to attain your goal. Finally, you need to create your plan of action. Resolutions without plans are merely wishes. If you want to fulfill your dreams you must have a plan and then work that plan. Set daily steps to follow that when added together equal goal attainment. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. The only way to achieve full potential is to create a plan. Let this be the year you follow through on your New Years Resolutions. Pick resolutions that are important to you and, write them down on paper. Revisit and review your goals on a regular basis, keeping them fresh in your mind. Pick the top one or two goals you would like to achieve first then develop and work your plan for achievement. You can achieve more this year than any other year following these guidelines. Here’s to a successful New Year.
