Where was Jesus after he died?
Question: What did Jesus do (where did He go) after He died on the cross until he was resurrected?
Answer: Presbyterians affirm that after Jesus died on the cross, he was taken down from the cross. His body was wrapped in cloth and placed in a tomb. On the third day, God raised him from the dead. We understand that Jesus was dead during that time, but we also believe, as we state in the Apostles Creed, that before Jesus was resurrected, “he descended into hell.” Various theologians explain this phrase in a variety of ways, but we largely understand it to mean that Jesus suffered all that a forsaken man would suffer, even separation from God.
