Getting a facelift for a commercial building
Question: Can our building be secured if we install new front commercial glass doors for a new look to our business?
Answer: From security and ease of access, to aesthetics and first impressions, interior and exterior commercial glass doors play an important role in the success of business operations. Commercial glass doors not only provide the public’s first impression of your business, but they also serve such purposes as managing traffic flow, securing your work environments, and climate control. With regard to security in the workplace, the risks to your business, resources, people, and other assets need to be properly assessed to determine exactly what those risks are, and how to address them and their importance in the pecking order. Having said that, actual security involves many more different aspects today than just the materials your building is constructed from. There are many, many commercial and other business structures that utilize lots of glass components in their construction, and it works out just great in nearly every case. In fact, glass has become one of the most desirable ways to enhance the workplace environment for many business owners in recent years. The type of business and what the possible losses might be would necessarily have to be an integral part of the risk assessment process we mentioned before. For example, in the case of a retail store, the hours of operation, and whether it is a 24/7 operation as opposed to just being open part of the day or evening, as well as the type and number of employees and customers on-site and when, are all questions to be asked and answered. If the location is closed parts of the day or night, and the premises locked down and secured, then the problem of security includes all the ways that a possible perpetrator might attempt to compromise your building or other assets. If your business is always open, then the interests shift to other areas of importance. In an office building, there are so many different ways to accomplish the security of the people and the property that they can’t be effectively conveyed in an article such as this. In today’s world, commercial glass doors and windows have been designed to make up some very attractive atrium style entrances and interior spaces for many buildings, bringing the outdoors inside, and making the interiors feel so wonderful! Banks and other financial institutions normally utilize lots of glass in their buildings. Glass can be made into significant building components, including ballistic glass, bulletproof glass, and even the layered glass that effectively prevents glass shards from a high wind being blown into people, animals, and anything else in its path, causing grievous injuries or death, as we mentioned last month. Tints in many different colors, low e glass for ultra violet protection…the list goes on and on…so in answer to your question, your local glass dealer is the place for you to begin your process of assessment to dramatically change and improve the commercial work spaces for you and your people. As far as security goes, glass, as it is installed today, will not compromise your security in any meaningful way…In fact, I believe you’ll enjoy all of the benefits that installing more glass will give you in your workplace! More next month…
