Advantages of stone and rock
Question: When it comes to landscaping I see more people using stone or rock, can you tell me what some of the advantages are?
Answer: Natural stone is becoming a popular choice for landscaping in yards across the country. There are several benefits of adding stone paving to the scheme and theme of a particular design. By adding natural stone, any homeowner can turn an ordinary backyard into a beautiful oasis, an escape from the average, and increase the value of their home by creating additional outdoor living space. Natural stone is so beautiful. There are hundreds of choices when it comes to what kind of stone you can choose to add to your backyard landscape, with design elements that include shape, layout and construction. A natural stone walkway leading through the grass to a flagstone patio can turn an unused and overlooked corner of the backyard into a peaceful sanctuary for reading, gathering and conversation. Most natural stone is more durable then wood decks, that need to be re-stained, and rebuilt, patio stone is durable and built to last a lifetime. In addition a stone patio can create virtually unlimited choices in shape, design and layout that may not be possible with other types of decking. Flagstone patios bring families together. Many people spend way to much time in front of their televisions every night and ignore the people on the couch next to them. Picture this; an outdoor gathering space with a comfortable table resting on stone and tiki torches on every corner this becomes a great place for family fun and games. Turn off the television and get to know your family out on the patio. Stone recaptures lost space through versatility. No family uses one hundred percent of their yard space. Through proper design and construction, a stone patio can recapture places that get little use and turn them into different types of activity spots for the family. A patio for the family to gather, a shady spot under the tree for reading, a platform next to a sandbox for the kids to play, or just a simple walkway through a small garden, natural stones are versatile and practical. As more and more people look for additional living space in their homes, they are turning to the outdoors and building both covered and uncovered areas to add to the usable square footage. When it is time to sell the home, potential home buyers can look at the outdoor space as additional room, and while you can’t add patio size to the total square footage of the home, home buyers won’t overlook the huge stone paving deck that creates a space the size of the living room under the sun. A carefully constructed area using selected natural stone can increase the perceived value of the home and add to the selling price. So adding a flagstone patio to the backyard is not only an investment in time spent together as a family, it’s also an investment in the total value of the home. Natural stone is beautiful, durable, versatile and practical with dozens of applications all of which can increase a home’s value.
