Question: I need some help on what I can do to keep my transmission in tip top shape, any suggestions?
Answer: To keep your car on the road to safety and savings, pay attention to your transmission. Here are a few hints on how: Keep your cool. Keep your cooling system in good shape. Regular service can help the transmission run cooler and last longer. Beat the heat. If you drive in very high temperatures or carry alot of weight in your car, an extra transmission cooler can add years to your vehicle’s life. Be shift thrifty. Most of the friction and wear in the transmission takes place during shifting. Try to get a feel for when the car is about to shift and ease off the gas a little. Avoid “jack rabbit” starts. Hard acceleration creates friction that can hurt the transmission. It wastes gas, too.
