Types of entry doors
Question: I need to replace my front door and know that there are many choices on the market. I am wondering which holds up best over time, wood, steel or fiberglass?
Answer: That depends on what you mean by holds up! Independent studies have shown that there are many steel, wood, and fiberglass doors that can compete quite evenly in the weather resistance category. However, in the resistance to scratches, dents and dings they part ways. In consumer surveys, most respondents assumed that steel doors would resist scratches and dents most effectively. It may be surprising to know that steel door show the effects of scratches and dents much more than wood or fiberglass. The same survey also noted that many people are not familiar with the advantages or features of fiberglass doors, such as energy efficiency, strength and durability. Over all, there are very competitive features for each type of entry door. After some research, when considering strength, durability and curb appeal, and most customers opt for high quality fiberglass doors that offer the look of real wood grain, strength of steel, but lower in maintenance.
