Benefits of fresh produce at your local grocer
Question: What are the benefits of fresh produce, and is there any benefit in buying from my local grocer?
Answer: There are many reasons why fresh produce is your best choice, year-round and on any budget and why your grocer is a valuable source. Let’s cover just a few. Fresh produce will contain far fewer additives than frozen or canned vegetables and fruits. Produce, particularly in season, is much more affordable than processed foods. The nutrient content in fresh produce is highest in nutrients right after picking and may begin to drop in nutritional content the longer it sits around. Local grocers are very conscious of this and rotate stock frequently to assure the freshest quality product is being delivered to customers. Product safety is another consideration. The local grocer is aware of the point of origin for the products. Should a concern in contamination ever arise, the grocer can quickly remove the product and alert customers if their product was affected. In short, your grocer knows the product and can deliver the highest quality product with a known handling chain.
