Ideas to make your yard beautiful
Question: I am looking to finally make my yard and landscape look great this year. Do you have any ideas on creating a great look?
Answer: There are lots of ways to add interest to your landscape without having to invest too much effort. Just remember that what you do will reflect on the overall appearance of your home and your personality. So putting together a creative plan, without pasting together those “quick fixes” will pay off and create a beautiful home, envious of your entire neighborhood! One of the best places to start is to make the most of your lawn. Green it up using a good weed and feed can make a world of difference. You can have the best landscape in the world, but if your lawn is not a thick, healthy green, you’re missing out on the most important part. Be sure to follow the instructions on the package or ask a professional, as using too much of some products can burn your lawn and do the opposite of what you envision. Using garden edging is another way to create some drama and make your yard design “pop.” There are many different types of edging, and ways to use them. Choose something that will not only highlight the yard, but compliment the home structure. Depending on the style you want to achieve you might want to choose certain materials and techniques over others. For example, cement can give a more modern look and brick can be used to create a more traditional look. Stone and brick are the easiest materials for homeowners to work with on their own. Home improvement stores will have many books on the techniques you can use to achieve certain patterns and styles. It is also possible to give your landscape an updated look without having to make drastic changes simply by adding some plants or trees native to the area. Native plants usually require less care and are more likely to survive the climate. Talk to a landscape design expert or nursery about which plants are native and choose ones that will add shape and color to your overall design. Choosing plants and grasses known to do well in an area also allows for better control of unwanted pest plants and weeds, which also makes your landscape design more beautiful. Be sure to plant everything correctly, not planting a tree to the correct depth or distance from the home will kill the tree and your investment.
