Best use of time, money and influence
Question: How can I achieve my weight loss goal?
Answer: Achieving a weight loss goal, or any goal for that matter, requires making decisions each day that move you closer to or farther away from your goals. Ensure forward momentum by asking yourself three important questions; what is the best use of my time, my money and my influence? Brian Tracy, a famous business coach, suggests that you constantly throughout the day ask, “Is what I am doing right now the best use of my time?” In business that means, “Am I moving forward to an objective or am I simply moving?” For weight loss you may ask questions such as “Shall I sit here in front of the TV or shall I get up and go for a walk?” “Will I use my time planning a grocery list, or will I waste time making extra grocery store trips because I forgot things?” “Will I take a few seconds to write down the foods I consume so that I eat less, or will I haphazardly go through the day ending up with less energy because I ate more than I needed?” Decide how you will organize your time effectively, thus moving toward your goal. Zig Zigler said, “You pay the price for poor health, you enjoy the price of good health.” Making the most of your money means asking yourself the question; “Is this best use of my money?” Spending money on fast food, junk food, and other unhealthy choices will cost you more in the long run than, preplanning and preparing meals at home; purchasing fresh fruits and veggies, and buying foods low in calories fat and sugar. Remaining healthy cost’s far less than diabetes, heart disease or stroke. Using your income wisely determines the outcome of your goal. You potentially influence everyone you meet, however, it is certain you influence those closest to you; your spouse, children and friends. Ask, ”Is my current activity a good use of my influence?” People will follow what you do, not what you say. It’s leading by example. The question is what kind of example are you setting? Are you touting the merits of eating healthy but grabbing fast food every night? Are you telling your kids to get out from in front of the video games and go play while you spend your evening on the computer? Your actions truly do speak louder than your words. When you are working toward a worthy goal, you’re leaving an invaluable legacy and influencing those around you with your decisions. You can check your progress on your weight loss or any other goal, by consistently monitoring your actions. Ensure your actions reflect the best use of your time, money and influence.
