What to look for in quality awards
Q: Over the last several years, I have been in charge buying trophies for team sports. Several times I have tried buying online, thinking they’d be more affordable, but have been very disappointed in the quality and the additional cost (not to mention breakage). Now, I am in need of buying some end of year business awards. Can you tell me what to look for in quality awards?
A: Many people fail to recognize that awards actually send two messages. One, and most obviously, they recognize the achievement of the recipient. Two, they demonstrate the quality of the business, organization, or establishment presenting the award. Poor quality awards always reflect poorly in the end, while high-quality awards are kept and displayed proudly. For the recipient, an award should be a lasting tribute to their work or accomplishment that they are proud to display. For the entity giving the award, it should be something that properly reflects the qualities of the company, and in some ways considered a lasting representative. When purchasing awards, trophies, and plaques, consider local establishments first where you can see and touch examples. There is wide range of options both in quality and price points that are difficult to evaluate strictly online. When looking for quality products, go through this short checklist: • Look for high quality materials offerings that include but not limited to, glass, crystal, and brass. • On samples, check the places where two pieces meet to see if the connections are secure and strong. • Look for places that offer hand engraving. Lastly, look for stores dealing with recognition awards that are active in their community. News of poor quality and service travels quickly, and stores that are active in the community have, in most cases, developed a reputation for quality. This also allows you to deal directly with representatives to get suggestions and head off any problems.
