Welcome to the June 2011 Issue of the SE Kansas Q&A Times Journal. I hope to find you well as we approach the summer months.
Memorial Day is the day we have set aside to honor veterans, military heroes and the loved ones that gave their lives in service to our country. Traditionally, it is also the start of summer festivities. While you are planning those family gatherings or backyard BBQs, make some plans to attend the Pittsburg Avenue of Flags held at Highland Park Cemetery.
The event is a wonderful way to honor our service heroes as well as take part in something both meaningful and memorable. Started March 14th 1972, through support of a veterans organization, the event includes the spectacular display of nearly a thousand flags and special keynote speakers. The event also includes the reading of the names of those whose lives have been lost in recent military conflicts.
However you choose to celebrate Memorial Day, remember to do so by honoring those who have lost their lives for our great freedoms.
