Catering ideas for parties
Q: We are having a corporate event that is in need of catering, and the job of figuring out the menu was delegated to me. Frankly, it is not a fancy affair, but of course, we all want it to be nice. I would also like to avoid some of the problems we have had in years past, which are often encountered with larger orders, such as undercooked meats. Do you have any ideas on creating healthy and fresh options that avoid the pitfalls of major expense or poor quality?
A: The party season is heating up and with all of the festivities, someone has to plan them and come up with the ideas. Fortunately, with a little planning, it will not be as frustrating as you might imagine. You did not mention whether it is a lunch, dinner or both but I will give you some ideas that work for both and are also friendly on the budget. Instead of breaking the budget on high-end restaurant catered meals, many companies are opting for more affordable catering. Local delis, small restaurants and supermarkets are a good source of low-cost catering and very frequently, event and party planners tap into several of the resources at once to create a wonderful variety for attendees. Menus from these places usually include things like wraps, deli sandwiches, salads, desserts and veggie or fruit trays, and can often be customized to suit a particular holiday theme or dietary preferences. And you do not have to sacrifice quality or healthy options when you are watching the budget. Many restaurants offer healthy options that are affordable, flavorful, and perfect for large events. Look for places using high quality, fresh, and local ingredients and ask if they can handle your size function. Remember, asking questions prior to the event can save you a poor meal at the time of the function.
