Simple ways to spruce up your home
Q: I was wondering if you could give me some simple ways to freshen up my home décor. I am not looking for a complete make over, just touches that make it look as if I have done more than I actually have!
A: There are plenty of ways you can give everything a fresh look without getting too involved. In fact, with a little resourcefulness and creativity, even a few touches can make a huge impact. Here are a few ideas to help give your creativity some direction. 1. Replace curtains with a fresh color. If you are handy, you can make your own and splurge on fabric that is more expensive. 2. Add some punchy pillows that incorporate a fresh and vibrant color. (The color of the 2012 is a radiant and encouraging “Tangerine Tango” so you will see it in plenty of accent pieces in it in stores soon). 3. Add new accent chairs that bring up the color. 4. Change your art to reflect a new attitude. 5. Modernize your lighting. Nothing dates a home or décor more than dated lighting. 6. Change the throw or area rugs. 7. Hang mirrors to reflect more light. 8. Incorporate a few new key objects of interest for your coffee table, mantle or bookshelf such as whimsical ceramic pieces. 9. A fresh coat of paint in a new color not only brightens your room, but also will inspire other changes. 10. Replace a piece of furniture with something that adds more interest. 11. Experiment with new furniture arrangements. You may find something that opens up a new focal point or adds new interest. 12. Freshen up accessories that you already own with a coat of unexpected color. Whether you are redoing an entire room or just adding new inspiration to the room, you do not need that $8,000 chair you saw in the magazine to create the ambiance you want. All you need is imagination, inspiration, and a little patience.
