was born in Peru and came to the US in 1971. He attended WSU and KU, earning a BS in Biology. He started Complete Landscaping Systems in 1983, on a part-time basis, and became a full-time entrepreneur in 1987. Today, Complete Landscaping Systems is one of the leading grounds maintenance and landscaping companies in Kansas and recipient of the Department of Commerce Service Company of the Year Award for Kansas in 2001. Mr. Salmeron is former President of the Wichita Garden Show Association and its Board and current Board member, is an executive member of the Board of Directors for Wichita Chamber of Commerce, President of Amigoes de Ser, was named SBA Small Business Person of the Year for 2000, and new Board member of the Wichita Conventions Bureau. What does it do?ANSWERS: 66 percent are Mexican, Cuban 4%, Puerto Rican 9%, Central and South American 14.5%, other hispanic origin 6.4 %. Projections show that Hispanics are the fastest growing minority. The Hispanic population will continue to increase at a fast rate in many areas exceeding the Afro American population.La Raza means "The Race" which is an ethnocentric term to describe mainly the Mexican population.La Raza is a political organization and it is the result of the political activism created in the 1960sIt took a militant line,organizing under working class issues in California, Colorado and Texas. La Raza held its first national convention in 1972, the main figures were Jose Angel Gutierrez, Corky Gonzales, Reyes Lopez Tijerina and Cesar Chavez.You can call a Mexican Hispanic or Latino, you can not call a South American Mexican, but you can call him Hispanic or Latino. Mainly people from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America are called Hispanics. Mexicans are from Mexico.Latinos are people from French, Italian or Spanish genetic background born in Central or South America. Most of the south american and Mexican people have a Spanish and Indian ancestry and they are called Hispanics. Sometimes it is better to ask before you make assumptions, most people will be glad to explain; just remember that not all Latinos or Hispanics are Mexican.The office of Hispanic Affairs is a State agency created in 1974 by Governor Robert Docking to eliminate official neglect of Hispanics and provide opportunities for the advancement of Hispanics in Kansas. The office of Hispanic Affairs gathers and disseminates information on hispanics and hispanic issues and it serves as a liaison between the hispanic public and the government.It helps coordination between public and private organizations to serve hispanics, stimulates public awareness on behalf of Hispanics and provides training programs for community leadership. Many other states have a Hispanic Affairs office and so does the Federal Government.
