Top 5 common social media mistakes
Q: I’m new to the social media world but would like to get involved for the sake of networking and for my business. What do I need to avoid?
A: Mistakes are often made when it comes to social media networking. Although social media can be a fun way to network, stay in touch, and/or communicate, it would be a good decision on your behalf to avoid all of these. 1 Setting up a Blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter page and then not keeping it populated consistently. Fresh content is the key. 2. Spending too much time on sites you enjoy and not fully evaluating whether that particular site is the most effective one for your efforts. 3. Going onto a site for “work” and then running down never ending “news feeds” getting distracted by friends who may have posted something interesting or something that requires a response. 4. Not being able to properly define when it is more cost-effective to delegate certain social media responsibilities to someone else to handle. Remember, it’s your business and/or image. If you constantly post in a language or context that most would find at a frat party, you’re probably not doing yourself or your business a favor. 5. Forgetting that social media is about engaging in the conversation and not just about selling. Nobody wants to keep reading your posts, tweets, or whatever line of communication you’re using if you keep trying to “sell” them each time. Remember, if you don’t want the world to potentially hear it, you should probably keep it off your social media feeds…
