Selecting the right swimsuit
Q: With summer rapidly approaching, what will help me feel more comfortable purchasing a swimsuit for my wife on Mother’s Day?
A: I could sum this up with one word, don’t. Fitting a swimsuit is more of a ‘science’ then you might think, and as you read further you will have a better understanding why. Gift certificates are available and I would strongly suggest you might use this as an option. Have her come in to save time and headaches by having a professional fitter measure her and suggest the best styles and colors of swim wear for your body type. Remember, all bodies do not fit in the same style of suit. Also when purchasing swim suits both bra support and tummy control are very important features to look for. And when shopping for swimwear you do not have to give up style and fashion to have both control and support. Many designers offer style and fashion without sacrificing support and control. For those who need extra length, the tankini is a perfect swimsuit. Prices vary but most start at about $60.00 and go up from there. Remember to complete the whole look with coordinating Coolie hats that will also help block the sun from her face. Also, she can accent the look even further by choosing a matching pareo. Special needs, such as alterations for a breast prosthesis, should be considered too. The suits can be ‘pocketed’ for her. A regular silicone prosthesis is designed to be used in swimming pools or lakes. Whereas, special swim breast prosthesis must be worn in fast moving water or in Jacuzzis, hot tubs, saunas or hot mineral baths where the temperatures are not normal. The regular silicone breast prosthesis is not recommended for these environments. Regardless of where she purchases that special swimsuit this summer, make sure she is comfortable with the fit and the person helping should be compassionate, competent and knowledgeable. You also want to remember, after buying a suit, take good care of it. It can provide years of pleasure and enjoyment if you will. One of the biggest ‘enemies’ is the chlorine in swimming pools. It cuts the elastic and causes your suit to wear out much quicker. A thorough washing after each use will help a lot. Hopefully these tips and few considerations will help her enjoy that special suit all the more.
