Feeling overwhelmed
Q- Lately I just feel overwhelmed, do you have any advice?
Q- You know the feeling; EVERYTHING seems to go sour all at once, motivation for about anything has disappeared, and hope for change feels like a distant dream. You can pick yourself up and rise above your current circumstances by reminding yourself of three principles; circumstances aren’t permanent, you have some control over how long you stay muddled in poor circumstances, and it’s ok to ask for help.. First, failure isn’t final and neither are any circumstances you are facing. The saying, “This too shall pass”, is 100% true. Everything has a season and the “stifling summer” (the negative circumstances) you find yourself presently enveloped in will give way to “spring” (a promising future). Your “summer” may be grief, financial, relationship, or health issues; take hope and take action. “Bountiful Fall ” can and will come. Failed opportunities beget learning experiences instead of reasons to give up. Grief eventually loosens its grip when you drag yourself up and focus on helping someone else. Financial issues can be resolved if you move forward, perhaps looking outside the box for new opportunities. Relationships can heal or you can embrace the opportunity to create new ones. You can focus on your poor health or you can move your focus toward doing what you can with what you have. Summer always gives way to Fall. Two, it’s partly up to you how long “summer” lasts. While you can’t change the outdoor temperature (some circumstances), how you choose to view your circumstance is completely in your control. Believing you’re in is the worst situation in the world and do nothing; you’ll stay inside isolated in your air conditioning avoiding everything and accomplishing nothing. Believe your circumstance is temporary and take action; you’ll begin emerging from the fire feeling stronger and moving ahead with life with an eye toward cooler temperatures. I know, sometimes it feels like there’s no other way to view your current condition and I know “summer” has its season. Feeling sad, angry, or disappointed all have their season. Your choice comes when you decide to complain about the heat, yet sit in the sun, OR you decide moving toward the shade might be a better idea. Fall will come; will you be miserable till it arrives or will you find a different focus? Three, asking for help getting through summers’ fiery heat, is perfectly fine. Independence is great, but when summer is long, finding your way to a cool drink of water can be difficult. A friend, a life coach (me or someone else you trust), or a mentor can help you distinguish between a mirage in your mind, and the clear stream that holds future possibilities. While you feel stuck in the present circumstance, someone outside the situation can better help you make a plan for the future. No matter how high summer temperatures soar with sweltering circumstance, you’ll emerge stronger when you realize circumstances are temporary. You’ll move forward faster when you focus on the future. You’ll see possibilities easier with help from a friend or life coach. Hang on my friend, fall is coming.
