What are the style drivers in residential carpet?
Q- What influences the colors and types of carpet available on the market? Just a couple of years ago it seemed like all that was available were very subdued colors and now the offerings seem brighter.
A- Chances are good that neutrals will always have their place in the residential carpet market, but you are correct that there is an increase of more vibrant colors on the market.
Many things influence what is available on the market, most importantly, consumer preference. Dozens of things influence consumer preference. For example, currently more people are opting to stay in their home longer and feel more confident in choosing a carpet that fits their own preference rather than thinking about a sell-ability factor.
The influx of design awareness also plays a role in what is available on the market. Consumers have a broader base of knowledge from which to leverage when envisioning their home. Seeing examples of the use of color also increases consumer confidence in veering away from basic beige.
Technological innovations also play a role in driving carpet color and style. Recent innovations make it possible for companies to produce softer carpets that are more vibrant affordably. In turn, the consumer responds to the wider product lines.
Today's consumers are interested in expressing their own design aesthetic in new ways, and that is probably the most influential style driver in the broader aspect of home and fashion design.
