What is the latest furniture trend?
Q- I just read an article on "refurb fab" or furniture that gets a second life as something new and exciting. It is very popular right now. I love the idea, but am not crafty that way. How can I get that look without too much effort?
A- With people paying closer attention to their finances and to the environment, an exciting new trend has emerged-- "refurb fab"" or refurbished fabulous. This trend takes older pieces and reworks them into something new, and sometimes completely different than the original.
The process can be as simple as painting a chair with unexpected colors and designs, or using old wood to make a dining table. The pieces can be ones you already own, yard sale items, or even free at the curb finds. All you need is a vision and some elbow grease.
With the rise of sites like Pinterest where people are sharing their work, the trend has gone beyond the home refurbisher to a full on retail trend, with items that "mock" having been refurbished! Of course those mock items lack the history and defeat the green value, but do help you get to that look.
For those who do not have the time to invest in that wonderfully creative trend, there are stores that specialize in doing the refurbishing and customers can browse the selections like a delicious trunk show. It is important to keep in mind though, that these are still one of a kind items, so if you see something you love you need to get it then. Some places can even personalize items, which makes a great Christmas gift.
