Diet fads that are bad for your health Part 2
Q- There are a lot of quick fixes when it comes to dieting. Yes I want to lose weight but I’d like to lose weight in a healthy way. Can you identify some of those “Fads” out there that are unhealthy?
A- Last month we began a series on Fad Diets and quick fixes for weight loss. Let's continue looking at that this month. DETOX AND CLEANSE DIETS 1. Master Cleanse 2. Fruit Flush 3. Other colon cleansing products These diets consist of multiple liquids and concoctions you need to drink that will make you poop and pee all day to clean you out. Sure you will feel cleansed but then usually the next day your body goes into starvation mode and you actually won’t and don't take off the weight and sometimes gain. They taste awful and are neither fun nor good for long term healthy results. They also do nothing to replenish essential probiotics you need and lose during that flushing process. WEIGHT LOSS GADGETS 1 Dermathol Patch 2. Belly Burner 3. Vibro belt 4. Tongue Patch Diet 5. Tapeworm Diet Can you imagine having a doctor sew a mesh screen to your tongue so that every time you eat you will hurt so badly you wont eat? What about ingesting tape worms? Are people just absolutely crazy and into torture? Someone will actually go out and spend thousands of dollars on these procedures rather than money on good food and perhaps 80 dollars worth of high quality supplements that support nutrition. These teach you NOTHING and once again you will gain your weight back because you never ever learned how to eat properly. Can you tell it's a pet peeve? Seriously though, I love people and want them to be healthy and these types of ideas and gadgets make me ill. WEIGHT LOSS PILLS AND DRINKS 1. Dexatrim 2. Trim Spa x 32 3. Hydroxicut 4. Acai berry 5. HCG The first three of these contain stimulants. These can cause rapid heart rate, elevation in blood pressure, anxiety, moodiness and insomnia. How healthy is that? Once again they may keep you from eating but again that is unhealthy as well and results in weight loss that isn't permanent. In fact, some of these products that you can get on T.V. or over the counter or even in nutrition stores contain pharmaceutical grade levels of stimulants. Last year, one of these products resulted in 23 folks sustaining liver damage and one death. Is it worth it? Acai berry does have some helpful antioxidant properties, but is certainly not an end all for proper nutrition or healthy weight loss. The HCG diet is particularly popular and can be harmful in many cases. We are going to dedicate January's article strictly to this controversial plan. The fact is when it comes to weight loss there are no quick fixes. If something tells you a pound a day will be lost or 10 lbs in the first week..yes it may take the weight off but not for good and not for life.
