What floor options make a room look larger?
Q-I just bought a small home and plan on updating everything, top to bottom. One of the things I would like to do is make it look larger in any way possible. Can you tell me if there are any flooring options that might give the home a larger feel and appearance?
A-What a wonderful opportunity for you! While you update your home, here are a few things you should consider. First, as a rule, you need to know that larger tiles and planks make a room look larger. While you are out in public spaces, take time to notice what they use in small commercial spaces. You will see for example, how large tiles can help make even a tiny powder room feel spacious. Next, you will want to avoid busy flooring patterns. The more a pattern breaks-up the visual flow, the smaller the room feels. Another option might be having the flooring installed diagonally. This is especially true in wood flooring options. Installing planks on the diagonal makes the room feel as if it continues on beyond the borders. Finally, consider the color choices in the flooring, and how they play with your paint color. Most often, a lighter color flooring makes the room appear larger. Before you commit to any flooring, I would look at some interior design magazines and pay careful attention to the flooring. Also, take time to discuss your options with a flooring expert. Flooring professionals have an extensive knowledge of techniques and products and will have many suggestions in making your home feel as spacious as possible. Quality Floor would like to wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
