What simple way can I encourage interaction?
Q-What suggestions do you have for visiting my Mom in Assisted Living with my children this winter and what can they do interactively with her?
A-How about a cup of Cocoa? Ask a grandchild to sit down for a cup of hot cocoa, and chances are you’ll find yourself in eager company for one of life’s delightful experiences. Aside from sharing laughs and giggles with their young grandchildren, sitting down to a cup of hot cocoa may also bring seniors’ brain power. While cocoa “flavanols” had previously been demonstrated as providing some benefits for the heart, they have also more recently been found to confer significant improvements to seniors with modest cognitive impairment. It seems drinking cocoa is not only a fun thing to do; it may also be healthy for you. P.S. Eating dark chocolate may bring some of the brain-boosting effect that cocoa does. As usual, though, all things in moderation are the best bet.
