What opportunities exist for those 65 & older?
Q-I am nearing 65 and am wondering what kinds of employment opportunities might exist for me, especially with the job market already under pressure. What are your thoughts on this?
A-Each day, 10,000 people turn age 65. At that rate, 18% of the population will be 65 or older by 2030. This aging of the population translates to a host of new jobs for those catering to the needs of seniors. Not only will younger workers benefit, but older individuals will also be able to work in “encore careers” serving other seniors. For instance, older workers may find ways to contribute as chronic illness coaches and patient advocates. There is also likely to be significant growth in care-giving opportunities. Additionally, older adults may want to consider career changes that involve working with older adults as personal trainers and nutritionists. There is a new world of opportunity after age 65.
