More on hair extensions
QUESTION: My friend  has hair extensions and  I‘m interested in getting them, but I want to know more before I spend the money to get them. Can you tell me about them?
ANSWER: Last month we discussed hair extensions and the main reason that people seek them. The most common reason for a person to get hair extensions is for length and fullness, but many clients also get extensions to combat baldness and thinning hair. Besides adding extensions to your hair, there are many tricks of the trade to help you deal with fine or thinning hair, help conceal baldness, and to give the hair movement.   If your hair is very thin, avoid adding long layers to shoulder length hair. An updated layered cut is a great way to add body and movement, but thin hair needs the weight of the hair to allow for that movement. Thin or fine hair is best in a shorter hairstyle, or without layering, unless the layers are much shorter than the length of the hair. Talk with your stylist about your hair type and lifestyle.    The goal of a short cut is to be able to wake, wash and walk. Short hair makes a statement. It conveys your personality, much like hair coloring. A short cut can be just as feminine as a long, flowing style. Think sassy! Wavy and curly hair work well with the newest version of the 'bob cut' which can be styled with hair extensions as well. Hair extensions can be just as easily cared for as your own hair.    Today's short cuts are not stiff or round. Forget using that round brush while the hair is wet. Instead, apply a light styling gel or pomade to individual sections of the hair when the hair is about 80% dry. While drying, move the hair to the desired direction with your fingers, being sure to dry the hair at the scalp to 100% first to add height and fullness. Hair extensions can help with this as well. Bring a few strands toward the face for more femininity and to flatter the eyes. In shorter styles, the style points to the face so let that be the last part of the hair that you work with. Just remember, do not brush the hair after it is dried/styled. All of your hard work will be in vain. Sprits lightly with hairspray and walk away!  Next month, we will discuss balding and tricks to help conceal it!
