Dawson Grimsley
Dawson Grimsley is President of the DAVIS-MOORE AUTO GROUP - and the automotive industry is in his blood. So is a genuine concern about safety, and about the community in which he lives and works. Three and a half years ago, the DAVIS-MOORE dealerships embarked on an unconventional advertising campaign promoting safety issues rather than car prices. Not only has the campaign increased business, it has also generated positive response from the public, and a heightened awareness of driving safety in the Wichita community. It has also resulted in a number of local, state and national awards. In Wichita, DAVIS-MOORE owns 7 new car franchises (Chevrolet, Dodge, Oldsmobile, Jeep, Lincoln/Mercury, Nissan & Mazda), and 7 used car dealerships. Selecting the right auto service shop
Question:  I am a single female. I bought a used car from a dealer a couple of months ago. This dealer does not have a service department. When I need auto service in the future, what are some of the things I should check before selecting what service shop I use?
Answer:  Deciding where to take a vehicle for service and repair is a decision that must be made carefully.  We suggest you start by asking friends, or someone you trust, for referrals.  It's also a good idea to check with a dealership that sells and services the brand of vehicle that needs servicing - because each manufacturer has engineering that is unique to the vehicles they make. When you contact the service department, ask if their technicians are A.S.E.  certified (Institute for Automotive Service Excellence), how many factory Master Techs they have, and how long the company has been in business.  You should also be able to get a feel for the service department by the cleanliness of the facility and the employees.  And ask the service rep how long he or she has been working there.  A business that retains their employees is able to offer more experience in customer relations, and a better record of repairing vehicles right the first time.Vehicle manufacturers are starting to reward dealerships for excellence in customer satisfaction - through programs such as Daimler Chrysler's Five Star and Lincoln Premier.  Ask the service department whether or not they have received any recognition of this type from the manufacturer, or any public recognition for having good business practices. Most dealership service departments aren't any more expensive than independent shops.  And going to a manufacturer's service department has many benefits.  First, they are able to offer factory training for their technicians.  They also have the proper factory tools to do the job correctly, factory publications for their employees, and factory parts.Other things you might want to check are the local Better Business Bureau, and the company's web site.  And no matter where you decide to take your vehicle, make sure you get an estimate for service and repairs before any work is done.
