Signs of elderly depression
ANSWER: According to the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, 15 out of every 100 Americans over the age of 65 have depression. Although it is normal to be sad for the loss of a loved one or while coping with a chronic illness, clinical depression affects a person's mental and physical activities for a prolonged period of time and should be given careful attention.Many seniors are struggling with loneliness and isolation - a major contributor to clinical depression. Isolation often is due to: children moving away, spouse and/or friends passing away or a lack of transportation.Even with family care, seniors can become more isolated and less active.
