Bioidentical hormone replacement?
ANSWER: : Bio-identical hormone replacement refers to using natural, identical hormones to replace those that are deficient in our bodies.  For many years, physicians have used synthetic hormones to treat thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone deficiencies.  There have been recent discoveries of some serious side effects to some of these, especially the female synthetic hormones.  The goal of bio-identical hormone replacement is to restore the levels to the normal range without the side effects of the synthetic hormones.  Bio-identical is just that.  It is identical to the hormones produced in the body.QUESTION: What are some examples of symptoms that your patients have relieved with bio-identical hormone replacement?ANSWER: We have many women who report that hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances are dramatically improved when their hormones are balanced naturally with bio-identical hormone replacement.  In men, bio-identical hormone replacement results in improved muscle/fat ratio, better control of blood sugars in diabetics, increased stamina, and better mental outlook.  In both men and women, it is much easier to attain ideal weight when the hormones are in the normal range.QUESTION: Where do people get information about bio-identical hormone replacement?ANSWER: Many of our patients have called after reading Suzanne Somers’ book, The Sexy Years: Discover The Hormone Connection.  Others have read the book, The Schwarzbein Principle II, by Diana Schwarzbein, M.D., who is mentioned in one chapter of Somers’ book.  Both books refer the readers to the www.acam.org website for referral to doctors who provide bio-identical hormone replacement.  Another website that has an abundance of information on all aspects of anti-aging, including bio-identical hormone replacement, is www.worldhealth.net   And, locally, people can call Dr George Watson’s office in Park City, at 316-744-3400.  He is a member of ACAM, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anti-Aging Medicine.
