How to help dry winter skin
Answer: There are special challenges when caring for your skin in the warmer months. Problems may arise from having winter skin that becomes too dry. If you have very dry skin, it may feel better and look better in warmer months. But if it is oily, the heat along with the humidity might make your skin feel more so. You already know that you should wear sunscreen, and you may not recognize the more immediate problems caused by heat and humidity. Small adjustments in your summer skin care maintenance routine will mean the difference between beautifully fresh looking skin and skin problems. If your skin is oily, remember to start with a soap-free cleanser and finish with an alcohol-free toner. Toners are appropriate to remove excess dirt, makeup and excess oils from the skin, as well as balance or re-hydrate mature skin You don’t want to strip the skin of all oils or cause irritation. Be sure to continue using moisturizer that is an oil-free formulation, and one with an SPF. This will keep the skin well-hydrated without feeling heavy or greasy. Another way to get your skin ready for summer is to regularly exfoliate. This gets rid of dead, dry skin cells. You can use a chemical or physical exfoliation to keep your skin looking healthy and to rid it of dry flaky winter skin helping to improve the normal balance. Even though your face is what is most exposed to the elements, our bodies need the same pampering that we give our faces. Winter dryness and the absence of humidity will leave our bodies feeling the effects from the weather change and we should take special care to make sure to hydrate generously. The best time to use lotion is when you first step out of the shower. While your skin is dewy with moisture, smooth on your favorite lotions to help lock in hydration. Preventative maintenance insures that you maintain that glowing and healthy appearance we all want. Wear a sunscreen, hat and sunglasses to avoid the suns’ rays that age us. Keep using your moisturizer – even when it is humid. Don’t forget to eat healthy to keep your skin clear and bright from the nutrients you give it. Most importantly get plenty of sleep, and drink lots of water for a rested appearance.
