Mirrored surveillance glass…it’s everywhere you might be
Many large Corporations, and many more smaller companies than in the past, are moving into the current century with their attempts to reduce or eliminate losses from pilferage, theft, or downright fraudulent acts, committed by customers, or even employees. Honest folks don’t normally even think about this, but companies lose billions of dollars each year from this activity…which drives the prices up on the products they sell for all of the rest of us. Hence, many of these entities are taking pro-active steps to stop their losses. When a company is moving in this direction, they will enlist the services of any number of specialists in the field to survey their business location, and make recommendations as to the steps that can be taken to begin to reign in the situation. Security surveillance, where discreet observation is required, sometimes requires the installation of everything from small obscure one way mirrors, to complete walls of reflective mirrored glass. In the world of security, the video camera and attendant recording devices make the prosecution of offenders pretty simple, and recovery a piece of cake. Part of this process involves the installation of very visible camera locations, where the sight of them will normally deter someone thinking about doing something wrong from completing the act. In addition, many companies know that there are locations and situations where discreet observation is necessary. This is where the mirrored reflective glass comes in. This can provide additional security in commercial settings, like the many stores where you shop, correctional institutions, hospital observations in surgical suites, worker monitoring in any number of areas of just about any workplace. Remember, cutting losses is the bottom line result being sought by the business owners, and they’re taking steps to achieve this. A mirrored surveillance glass, whatever the size, requires that the subject room, where the ones being observed are located, is well and evenly lighted over the walls and furnishings. The light should not be directed toward or directly on the mirrored glass. Colors and furnishings should be bright and light in color. Importantly, people on this side of the reflective glass should be kept at some distance from the glass surface. The light ratio from the subject side to the observer side should be about 8 to 1. This will provide the best light conditions for optimal results. The room on the observation side must be much darker and the walls uniform in color. Patterns should be kept to an absolute minimum, and colors that contrast avoided altogether. Low light is necessary on this side of the glass to prevent the ability to see through the reflective mirrored surface from the other side. Opaque lamp shades are recommended in this space. This reflective mirrored glass was created for simple aesthetics, sometimes to camouflage office areas, wet bars and entertainment centers, and is additionally used now worldwide as an unobtrusive observation method in many interior applications for security and loss prevention. Interesting, huh? More Next Month…
