is the Republican Candidate for Kansas State Senator representing the 27th District, an office he has held since March of 1997. He was born in Wray, Colorado and lived on his granfather’s farm before moving to Texas.
“The depression was a desperate time for most of America, as it was for my family. Growing up hungry and poor was way of life for our family and all those that we knew. School was a holiday experience from the hard labor of our farm and I cherished every moment. As the only one of five children that graduated from high school and went on to college, I appreciate education, and what it can do the the future of a child .”
Les worked his way up in the automobile business, then managed a large Ford agency in Texas. It was then time to to buy his own company. His choice was Kansas. He and his wife Mary ‘Sissy’, and their children haven been in Wichita ever since. Les and Sissy have 6 grandchildren, all born and educated in Kansas. It is no wonder why the quality of schools, the opportunities to acquire a good job, and live in safety are of the utmost importance to him. Les likes to say, “I have lived the American dream, and I know it is real. It should be available to all.”

State Senate - 27th District
Answer: We who live in Wichita have a lot to be thankful for in these troubled financial times. Wichita is blessed with a strong economy, low unemployment, and a growing national reputation for good job opportunities and affordable housing. The aircraft industry is expanding with new models, new jobs, and a large backlog of sold orders. We will soon have a new state of the art hospital on the west side. A new airport terminal will begin construction soon, Cessa is building a plant for their new large plane, Spirit is building a facility to produce the fuselage for Cessna’s new plane. The two companies will add nearly two thousand jobs. The arena will open soon and the downtown building continues. Many positive developments for the city and the state.
Wichita is finally being recognized as the economic bright spot in Kansas. For years the northeast area of Kansas was the big driver of the state economy, now it is our turn. As a legislature, we must continue to do what is necessary to keep moving forward.
I believe that I have the experience in government to keep Wichita in the forefront of progress. I have served as chair or vice chair of several important committees and my business background is helpful in dealing with issues like economic development and tax policy.
I would appreciate your vote and I pledge that I will work hard to serve the needs of the voters in the 27th District and the citizens of Kansas.
