New Year’s resolutions
Answer: Everyone has made a New Year’s Resolution at one time or another. If you’re like most people, those resolutions are forgotten quickly. Make this year different by creating a vision. Imagine yourself three years from now, looking back on today. What has to have happened personally and professionally for you to feel happy? Tell the truth about what you’d like to see happen. Think about your income and savings, your quality of life, your free time, your health and your relationships what do you want those to look like three years from now. Then set a plan in motion with deadlines that you’ll be accountable to. To enact the plan, you’ll want to focus on multiplying six areas; progress, productivity, income, relationships and character. First, focus on multiplying progress. Check your vision and plan every 90 days. Keeping it at the top of your mind will allow you to see progress rapidly. Dan Sullivan said “When you write your goals your future coaches your progress.” Know your destination and you’ll see progress. Second, focus on multiplying productivity. Invest 90% of your time at work in productivity; you’ll get more done and have more free time. Really rejuvenate without your Blackberry, cell phone, internet, business books and the like. Quality of life comes from resting your mind and body resulting in higher productivity. Third, focus on multiplying your income. Donna Krech says “There is something that you know how to do that no one has had to teach you, this is your gift or your calling.” Live in your gift and your income will be multiplied. Think of the one thing you’re really good at and focus on that. Delegate others to do the rest. Frank Sinatra didn’t move pianos, he did what he was good at, he entertained. Fourth, focus on building relationships. Devote all your time to the relationships that bring you the results you want. Prioritize; God, family, business are my top three. Figure out what you need to do to build the relationships that help you realize your vision. Fifth, focus on the habits you need to develop. Write down things you think you can do better, pick one and work on it for 21 days. Then move on to the next item. The only way to develop new habits is to practice them on a consistent basis. Finally, most importantly, focus on building goals and character. Characteristics such as gratefulness, giving, integrity and follow through are qualities that make an impact on your world and determine your ultimate success. You can make this year a truly new beginning when you create your vision and systematically progress toward productivity. When you live in your calling, refine relationships, develop habits and build character success is the only option.
