Can you really lose 30 pounds in 2 weeks?
Answer: That’s a very good question. I too have seen this ad and others like it. It’s commonly known that the healthiest way to lose weight is by no more than two or three pounds per week after the first week of dieting or exercise. Your weight loss goal should not only be to lose the weight, but to keep it off consistently, which is the definition of successful weight loss. Following are some of the inherent dangers of losing weight too fast. Water Weight If you try and lose weight too quickly, the majority of the weight you drop will be water weight. This might sound like a good idea, but it can lead to rapid dehydration. Your body burns calories and excess weight in stages, which must be properly observed for healthy weight loss. If you try to pressure your body into dropping the pounds faster than it naturally wants to, you can cause significant damage to your health. Remember that when you’re trying to lose weight, water is your friend. Drinking a glass or two of water before a meal will keep you from overeating and will also supply your body with adequate hydration. If you’re exercising on a daily basis, you should increase your intake of water to counteract the water lost from perspiration. Diarrhea Never a pleasant subject but unfortunately, attempting to lose weight too fast can lead to severe diarrhea, sometimes followed by constipation. This carries some of the concerns with losing water weight. Diarrhea over an extended period of time can lead to dehydration, which can even become life-threatening. This is especially true if you are fasting for long periods of time or using detoxification diets to lose weight. Rather than trying to force your body into dropping pounds, eat a healthy, well-balanced diet with plenty of fiber. If you’re worried about the build-up of toxins, you might try eating only organic foods or avoiding processed meats. In order to lose weight faster than normal, you would have to deprive your body of calories. As you learned in junior high science class, calories translate into energy, which your body needs to get through the day. If you fast or eat too little in an attempt to lose weight too quickly, you’ll find that you’re sleepy for a large portion of the day and exercise will be out of the question. A better way to lose weight would be to eat smaller meals that are spread out in increments throughout the day. This boosts your metabolism, which can actually give you more energy and help you to lose weight healthily. Malnutrition Although severe malnutrition occurs over a period of several months, restricting your caloric intake can deprive your body of essential nutrients that serve to keep you healthy. Crash diets and fasting are dangerous because they not only restrict fats and carbs, but they also prevent your body from taking sustenance from vitamins and minerals. Again, eating a well-balanced diet is the healthy way to lose weight. Any time you are dieting and/or exercising it is important to take a good multiple vitamin to prevent malnutrition. Also multis are a great way to boost the immune system and prevent illness.
