Aren’t all hypnotic sessions the same?
Answer: Oh my goodness no! Hypnosis sessions are as varied as the client to a well-trained, modern hypnotist. The session changes to meet the client’s needs. For instance, let us look at the older, more traditional hypnosis session where the hypnotist helps the client into a hypnotic state and then gives direct suggestions for change. While this type of hypnosis has been effective for centuries, and still is, there are new methods of using hypnotism to change people’s lives. These new methods are so much more powerful, and can help in areas where direct suggestion just could not reach. The art/science of hypnotism has made such great strides in the last few years that in many cases, it hardly seems the same thing. During my seminars, I often tell people we have learned more about how efficacious hypnosis can be in the last year than we have learned in the last 30 years. Modern technology has been able to show the skeptical scientist that hypnosis is actually making changes in the brain chemistry of the hypnotized person rather than the old “It’s just mind over matter” adage. Interestingly enough, while that saying was used to denigrate the practice of hypnosis, new machines like the fMRI, and yes it really is spelled that way with a little “f”, have been able to prove that the mind is changing the matter, i.e. chemistry of the brain. While I love the simplicity of the standard Direct Suggestion techniques that have been around for so long, we are constantly learning of new ways to use hypnosis and also, new techniques for achieving off times, spectacular results. One of the techniques that I really love is one in which the body and brain are relaxed down in the traditional manner. However, once the state of deep relaxation is achieved, the body is allowed to further relax, but the mind is brought up, up, up to a very high state of focus and awareness. This technique is known by several names. One of the early experimenters with this state called it “hyper-imperium” The man who, I believe, has developed it the most, and copyrighted his name for it is Jerry Kein of DeLand, Florida. Jerry was one of my early teachers and of all the masters I have studied with, I hold him the highest, both as an effective, practicing hypnotist and the best of teachers. Unfortunately, Jerry has had to deal with some serious physical conditions the last few years and does very little teaching. Most of his classes are now given over to others They’re good teachers, but they just can’t achieve the heights of the master. One of the reasons that I now teach classes, is because I want students to have the opportunity to get the teachings as Jerry would have presented them. He always challenged his students to do more and better things instead of just performing the things they were taught, by rote. “Ultra-Height” is the copyrighted name Kein gave to his version of this very effective technique which seems to work for most issues. UH, as most of us refer to it, is one of those techniques where the client gets a wonderful experience of healing, or changing their life almost instantly. In many cases, once the client emerges from their hypnosis, they find their life changed. In some cases, the client gets information on things that they need to change in their lives to achieve their goals. Interestingly enough, they sometimes also communicate to the hypnotist, techniques to use with the client at a later time. . Again, as with many of the things that happen in hypnosis, it is not a scientifically quantifiable healing technique, but the anecdotal evidence is overpowering. While to many, the healings and experience during this type of session appear to be in the metaphysical realm, the healings and changes come to everyone, no matter what their belief system. I have had people describe their experiences to me immediately following the session and then ask “ Was that real?” I can only ask, “ Did it seem real to you? Do you feel better now?” When they answer yes I can only answer that if the results are real, that is all that really matters. Recently a lady with fibromyalgia went to a hypnotist friend for some help. She is an awesome conservative Christian who regularly takes a lunch hour for “fasting prayer” each week. She has an absolutely beautiful relationship with her God. She was guided into UH with the instructions that there was something in her body that needed healing, and she would find it there. She described to me the sublime joy of being so deeply relaxed physically and yet her mind was soaring. She described it as a “heavenly” feeling and “ then it was like I was on a jet-ski zooming from nerve to nerve, healing and calming them.” Needless to say, most of the painful trigger points of fibromyalgia are gone and her life has changed dramatically. Her legs, which have been grotesquely swollen for years were noticeably smaller following the session. She describes herself as “a new woman”. With changes in her “fibro” she has decided to change much in the rest of her life. She came to me a week ago and said, “I want to lose weight, but I don’t want to lose my figure”. She meant that she didn’t want to lose the weight from her upper body, where most women begin to lose weight first on traditional diets In the last eight days she has lost 5 pounds with no indications of her figure fading. Ultra Height (copyrighted) or Hyper-Imperium both use the powers that are hidden within us, as all hypnosis does. It seems however, to tap more powerful sources of change than are traditionally used. Often we find the client later reporting they heard the answers to questions, or what they needed to do. Others explain they read it, or sometimes they just suddenly “know” or “feel”. Whatever their experience, positive changes result. Sometimes, the client keeps the very private information or healing to themselves, not explaining it to the hypnotist at all, as is their right. Other times they can’t wait to share the wonderful thing that has happened to them. These techniques work not only for physical healing but for changing lives in any way needed. It has been used to help business persons to understand issues that were crippling them and consequently their business. It has helped in interpersonal relationships, addictions and many other needs. As always however, it has to be the trained hypnotist who chooses the specific technique which is best for the client’s needs. When choosing a hypnotist always feel free to “interview” them before working with them. Check their credentials, and their experience. Many hypnotists have been trained in out of date techniques that work. I found an old CD the other day, that I made for relaxation about 10 years ago. It worked, but I would be embarrassed to use it now. Today the techniques available to the modern hypnotist are so much more powerful and faster than ever before. Probably the best test of your hypnotist is whether you “feel good” with them. If you don’t feel comfortable with the hypnotist (not the technique), then it’s probably a good idea to get up and leave. Don’t be embarrassed to take action. A good hypnotist will understand, and you don’t want to waste your time with the other kind. Mayo College of Medicine calls hypnosis a “benign” or safe therapy. So give it a try. Change your Mind – Change your Life.
