Drivers finding unexpected new places to park their vehicles?
Answer: We’re not really sure! We could blame it on the cold weather, the holiday season, or misdeeds by Santa’s elves, but it seems like we get more calls during this time of year asking that we send out a crew to board up the front of businesses after someone has stepped on the gas instead of the brakes…the result of which is pretty predictable nearly every time! The boarding up process takes care of temporary security and weather issues, allowing us to pick up the precise glass, metal, and other materials to do a permanent repair of the damage. The commercial window and door frames, in most cases, are pretty sturdy, strong enough to prevent the intrusion of nearly all types of bad weather, short of a tornado. But no matter whether they’re built of glazed steel casements, anodized aluminum, or any of the other materials commonly used to construct these daylight filled interior space enhancers, they won’t keep an out of control car or truck from coming on in! It happens that several times a year, someone has a mishap like we’ve been seeing recently here in Wichita. When the butt or pivot hinges on these heavy duty commercial doors get bent or destroyed, it’s always good if the glass company making the repairs has the glass and other parts in stock, so that the inconvenient situation for the business owner is corrected right away. The heavy duty commercial door closers are an important part of the operation, and prevent that door from catching in the wind, and bending up the frame and other parts all over again. In one recent automobile driver’s adventure into the lobby, the exit sign above the door fell completely off the wall. Since the business needed to stay open that day, it was very important that the exit sign, a code requirement, be repaired and replaced immediately. We’ve seen exit devices just go bad…not needing a car wreck to cause the malfunction. A top glass repair and replacement dealer will, more often than not, have all the technicians and materials on hand to handle all of the repairs needed when an emergency or unexpected mishap occurs. Have you ever stood with your hand on the door of a business, PUSHING when the sticker said PULL, or PULLING when the sticker said you need to PUSH? Well, most of the time it’s pretty easy, as shown in the picture, for you to know whether to PUSH, or PULL, when you’re coming in, or going out! But then, that’s assuming you got your foot on the brake instead of the gas pedal! :~) More next month…
