What is laser therapy and can it benefit my pets?
Answer:Laser therapy uses “cold” laser light at a low intensity to stimulate tissues to heal. Healing occurs by the promotion of circulation-dilating both blood vessels and lymphatics to help the body remove toxins and reduce swelling which will alleviate pain. Laser light desensitizes local nerves so they send fewer pain signals to the brain. Also, healing tissue fibers called collagen align themselves in a more linear, uniform, “normal” direction when exposed to laser light, reducing scarring and improving the tissue strength of newly healed wounds faster. The advantages of using laser therapy over other forms of therapy is it doesn’t require the use of drugs or surgery. It also has fewer side effects/risks and is quick and convenient. The benefits include: •Non-surgical treatment •No patient sedation or restraint required •Extremely safe with no side effects •Can be combined with other medications or other arthritis treatments •Immediate results: Most treated pets feel better in 12 to 24 hours after treatment •Speeds healing process The most common Laser Therapy indications are arthritis, back injuries, acute and chronic pain, wound healing and inflammatory conditions such as acute or chronic otitis, hot spots, sinusitis and Lick granulomas. MLS Therapy Laser provides another weapon against pain, either as a drug-free option or with standard treatments to enhance comfort beyond the ability of drugs alone. Laser therapy has been very helpful in treating many patients.
