Setting up your eBusiness
A: It sounds as if you have thought this out more than many merchants actually do. Let me provide you with some input over the next several issues that may be of assistance. First things first It is always good to first find a niche product line that sells well online. Without a niche product, you will have a difficult time seeing success on the Internet, no matter how elegant your online store designs and layouts are. Be sure that the products you choose to sell can be sold online. In other words, if you sell an item that costs $10.00 and weighs 80 pounds, the low-value-to-high-weight ratio makes this item more difficult to sell. Quality online products should have a high value-to-weight ratio (i.e. a $30.00 item that weighs only five pounds). Conduct product research to find out how many others potentially compete with you and who they are. If you can offer store customers a better price or have the ability to innovate the way in which it’s sold, then you have successfully found a niche product line for yourself and should consider adding those items to your product/service mix. Legal and licensing It is always a wise idea to consult with an attorney before venturing into any new business arena, whether online or off. Often times, most individuals fail to remember this when starting up their own eBusiness and online store. If you already have legal insurance or are required to get it, you would be wise to consult with an attorney or Internet law experts. You may even be able to find one that offers advice free of charge online through blogs, forums and other avenues of research. Like anything researched online, take what you read with a grain of salt and if you have any doubts about the validity of what you find you may want to consult an attorney just to be sure. Some merchants are required to obtain certain licenses to sell certain goods online. In these instances, you should consult with an attorney and have them make you aware of any risks associated with selling the goods and/or obtaining a license to sell them.
