Ohh, the holidays! Food, food, and more food!
A: Well it’s that time of year again. Parties, food, friends, & family. It’s also a time when temptation is at its greatest! Large portions of the holiday ham or turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, noodles, stuffing, pies, cookies, cakes, adult beverages…the things we intake around the holidays are endless! Now I’m a guy that enjoys eating, but I’m also one that now knows the importance of portion control. Portion control is one of the primary tactics in controlling calorie intake. Often times, people don’t take the time to weigh and measure foods – or if they do, they stop and begin thinking they can “guesstimate” portions. Nine times out of 10, this is when portion sizes gradually increase, which can derail all you’ve accomplished in your weight loss efforts. Some may not realize that the three-ounce portion of meat in a meal plan is the size of your fist or a deck of cards. Or, we forget that anything and everything counts, including fats used in preparing the meal or at the table. Only a few lapses over the course of a day or week can completely throw off anyone’s progress. Meal replacement shakes are a great way to beat the temptations and indulge at the same time. There are options out there that can take the guesswork out of calorie and portion control, while delivering healthy ingredients and great taste! Using meal replacements as a part of a weight loss plan, clinical studies have shown, to be more effective than counting calories with an all-food diet. Customizing these shakes to your likings and taste buds are a way to add even more taste to your weight loss efforts. Many choose to mix with milk, soy milk or add a favorite fruit and you have your personalized meal in minutes. Seasonal shakes are available that taste great and are a healthy alternative to those calorie laden treats and snacks. Delicious, healthy (and convenient) portions of controlled meals will help you keep those “real food” calories down, while keeping your scales at home on track! What more could a dieter ask for? Lets be honest, we’re going to eat a bit while enjoying the Holidays, and hopefully I’ve brought a few things to light that will refrain you from over indulging. Happy Holidays everyone!
