Painting formica
ANSWER:  Anything can be painted, but because of potential health related problems, I would not recommend painting Formica. Paint could flake off when food is cut or prepared on the surface and bacteria could grow on the surface.I would recommend one of two things. Change out the counter top with new Formica material, or use marble, tile, solid surface material, etc. The second fix would be to cover the existing Formica with a color/style of your choice. To do this, sand down the existing Formica, breaking the glaze. Coat with contact cement per instructions provided and install the new Formica. The existing Formica must be firmly attached to the substrate to do this. Then the new Formica will have to be routed to fit.  It’s messy and dusty but it looks good when done.
