Choosing living room furniture
A: Buying furniture can be a daunting task for anyone. There is much to consider from price point, to style. Here are a few things to take into account when looking for furniture. Selection It is great to find a store with a large selection. Where you can look and compare many different styles and colors. Whether you are looking for leather, fabrics, micro-fibers, bonded-leather or vinyl, it is important to make sure you get what fits your family the best. Budget Not many of us have an unlimited budget, so it is important to find a retailer that sales quality products at a lower price. Most furniture comes from the same places. If you can find someone who buys in bulk, then you can save money that way. If you can find a retailer that sells other things besides furniture this may be a way to lower the usually high margin of “furniture only” retailers. Be careful of rent-to-own deals as the interests on such deals are usually extremely high. You can expect to pay double or triple your original purchase price. Don’t be afraid to ask if the retailer has any special financing. Usage If you really use your living room as a gathering place, there are a few things that you will want to consider. High usage will need high durability. The furniture should be comfortable and usable. Make sure the piece fits how and who will use the room. Quality If possible purchase the highest quality that you can afford. When looking at furniture look beyond the surface appearance, check the construction, and sit on it to see if it is comfortable. If you are shopping with a retailer that you trust, ask the salesperson their opinion. You can also go on-line and check out a furniture maker. Dimensions Know your space. Many people fall in love with a piece only to find out it doesn’t fit in their space, or is the wrong color. If a big sofa overwhelms the space find one in a similar color and style that does fit. If you factor in these considerations, you will be able to rule out many of the choices and narrow in on ones that will work well for you and your family.
