Assisted living or living with family?
A-So many things go into making a decision about transitioning from living alone to assisted living or with family. Naturally, you have many concerns. The best way to decide what is best for you is by knowing all of the options and what each option would mean to you and to your loved ones. It helps to be realistic and think real circumstances you are likely to encounter in each situation. For example, what noise and privacy levels do you prefer? One might offer more of what you need. Some people love the hustle and bustle of family, while others love it on a more limited basis. Another consideration is how connected you'd like to be with peers. Would a move to one place or another keep you closer to your friends? Retaining independence is another factor people consider when making this decision. Some people feel more independent in a home situation, while others thrive in the assisted living setting. What choices will be your own in each setting? While it is hard to gauge before hand, think about the type of assistance you need and how comfortable you would be with either family or staff assisting you. This is another important factor in making a decision. Finally, you could even split your decision and live with family for a time and then choose an assisted living situation as you feel it becomes more comfortable. Remember, above all else, your family wants you to be happy. I am sure they would tell you that whether or not you leave an inheritance is not even a factor in their minds. They love you and the richness you add to their lives will live on for generations. So make your decision based on what makes you most happy, because that is what they really want.
