Do you remember?
A-Good idea…February is usually a month of cold weather and deep snows. Do you remember that on February 21, 1971, Wichita had the worst blizzard in many years? I remember the date because it was on my daughter’s 3rd birthday and on a Sunday. We were snowed in for 3 days before the roads were cleared. Maybe February won’t be as bad this year due to the higher temperatures and drought. But if we have the usual February weather, we will be checking our cars to withstand the snow and ice. Remember how the cars used to freeze up before the invention of anti-freeze? Some of the older drivers drove into the filling stations with smoke coming out of their engines because of frozen radiators. Now the cars can set outside and still be operative because we check our anti-freeze for safety. Sometimes we have to use chains or snow tires to get us through drifts on un-cleared roads and driveways. February is the month that my Dad called the month of great men because of their birthdays in that month. This included George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and my Dad’s birthday. My family is blessed also with my daughter, a daughter-in-law and a grandson born in February. During the cold weather, it is nice to look forward to Valentine’s Day. There are many creative cards, toys, candy, jewelry and gifts to give to those special people in your life. The negative side is gas and electric bills will be higher due to the colder weather. It feels great to go into a warm building or car and get out of the cold and we appreciate having a place to go to in order to be warm. I hope you have a very comfortable and healthy February and winter.
