Dark hair ends... light at scalp
ANSWER: Hair grows at a stage of about ½ inch per month. Depending on the length of your hair, the longest part of your hair is older that the hair at the scalp. The older hair has been exposed to more damage than the newer hair, such as chemicals (hair color), natural elements such as sun damage, heat caused by a blow dryer or curling iron, and physical abuse such as brushing, back-combing, hair ornaments or rollers.The older or more damaged the hair is, the more delicate it is. Much like a terrycloth towel. The older hair (towel) is more porous and will absorb moisture much quicker than newer hair (towel), which is less porous. Therefore, if you apply the hair color to both parts of the hair for the same amount of time, the older hair will absorb more of the color than the hair near the scalp, causing the older hair to become darker. The older hair continues to darken with each application of hair color resulting in the hair becoming stained.When applying hair color, apply to the new hair first following the directions for processing time, then apply to the ends of the hair for the last 5-10 minutes of the total processing time. To keep your color looking fresh, always use professional shampoos, conditioners, and styling products as suggested by your hairdresser.
